SOUND DETECTIVE

Sound Detective is a simple, game-like phonics activity that helps kids practice hearing and identifying speech sounds in words. Your child is given a target sound (like /s/ or /sh/) and a position to listen for (beginning, middle, or end), then they tap the picture cards that match—so it builds real “sound awareness” without feeling like a worksheet. It keeps score and streaks for motivation, allows you to choose different sounds and grid sizes, and includes a gentle “strike” system so kids can learn through mistakes without getting stuck. There’s a “Hear” button to replay the target sound, and a help button that explains the rules out loud. Everything runs locally in the browser with no accounts, and audio is gated (it won’t talk until the child taps/presses a key or the widget is actively in view), which makes it more parent-friendly in quiet settings.
