Childrenstelevision.org started because I wanted my own kids to have the kind of learning tools I couldn’t quite find anywhere else—simple, playful, and actually helpful. I built it for them first, and then opened it up so other families could use the same calm, kid-first learning space.

What to do at home

  • Read aloud every day
Point out letters, sounds, and familiar words while reading together. This builds early reading confidence and listening skills.
  • Play simple learning games
Counting, sorting, matching, and memory games help children understand numbers, patterns, and problem-solving through play.
  • Practice self-help skills
Let your child try zipping coats, opening containers, and cleaning up toys. Independence builds confidence and focus.
  • Encourage creative and active play
Building, drawing, pretend play, and outdoor movement support fine motor skills, imagination, and social development.

1ST GRADE

What to Do at Home

  • Read together every day: Take turns reading out loud. Let your child spot sight words, sound out new ones, or “teach” you a word they know. Turning reading into a shared game builds confidence fast.
  • Play learning games: Counting coins, sorting toys, matching cards, or quick board games all sharpen math and thinking skills without feeling like schoolwork. Five minutes here beats worksheets every time.
  • Build independence quests: Challenge them to zip coats, tie shoes, pack snacks, or open containers on their own. Celebrate wins—these small victories boost problem-solving and self-confidence.
  • Encourage creative and active play: Drawing, building with blocks, pretend play, and outdoor movement help kids strengthen focus, coordination, and imagination. Play is still how learning sticks at this age.

2ND GRADE

What to Do at Home

  • Read and talk about stories daily
Have your child read aloud and then talk about the story together. Ask simple questions like “What happened first?” or “Why did the character do that?” This builds comprehension, not just reading speed.
  • Make math part of real life
Use everyday moments for math—count change, measure ingredients, compare prices, or keep score during games. Short, real-world math beats long homework sessions.
  • Practice responsibility skills
Encourage your child to manage small tasks like packing their backpack, keeping track of homework, or following a simple routine. These habits build independence and organization.
  • Fuel creativity and movement
Writing short stories, drawing comics, building projects, and outdoor play all support problem-solving, imagination, and physical development. Learning still thrives through play.

3RD GRADE

What to Do at Home

  • Read independently and discuss ideas
Encourage daily reading on their own, then talk about the story together. Ask questions like “What was the main idea?” or “What lesson did the character learn?” This strengthens comprehension and critical thinking.
  • Use real-world math challenges
Have your child solve everyday problems—figuring out totals, making change, measuring for simple recipes, or tracking time. These practical math moments build confidence and accuracy.
  • Build organization and follow-through
Help them plan homework time, break tasks into steps, and take responsibility for materials. Learning to manage time and tasks is a key 3rd-grade skill.
  • Support creativity, curiosity, and movement
Writing stories, building models, drawing, and staying active all help kids connect ideas, express themselves, and stay focused. Play and exploration still matter—even as academics level up.
